1. Historical center of the town of Mikulov
Mikulov is a wonderful town in Southern Moravia. It was founded by Přemysl Otakar I in the 13th century and soon afterwards the ownership of Mikulov went to the hands of the House of Lichtenstain. In the 15th century, the town witnessed the first Jewish settlement that had a tremendous impact on the history and architecture of the whole region. The presence of Rabi Löw, the legendary creator of Golem, went down in local chronicle too.
Mikulov is also known for its wine growing tradition. A viticulture exhibition can be seen in the regional museum. Wines can be stated in numerous restaurants or during tasting sessions held in one of the local wine cellars.

2. Lednice-Valtice complex
Chateau Lednice is found 12 km from Mikulov and about 50 km south of Brno, on the right river bank of the Dyje. Its French garden and a vast English park belong not only to the leading romantic memorials in the Czech Republic but also in Europe. The whole Lednice-Valtice complex was included on the UNESCO world cultural heritage list in 1996.
Lednice and Valtice are about 8 km apart. Take a pleasant walk from one chateau to the other or use the service of the local rental shop and admire the Lednice and Valtice area from a bike saddle. In addition to the two gorgeous chateaus, you will come across more than a score of romantic buildings, or you can watch a predatory bird flying show, or go take a tour across the complex in a carriage or a boat.

3. Historical center of Břeclav
The first settlements of the contemporary Břeclav region date back to the time 8 000 year B.C. The territory that was once the home of primeval people is called Pohansko (Pagan Town). Around 400 B.C., the Břeclav region was settled by the Celts, later by the Germans and finally by Roman armed forces. The first mentions of Břeclav are from the 11th century. Like Mikulov, Břeclav went from the ownership of the House of Přemysl to that of the House of Lichtenstein.
History breathes at you from nearly every retreat of the old town. Worth visiting are also the municipal museum and the Jewish quarter, the latter having underwent thorough reconstruction in the late 1990’s.

4. Water reservoir Nové Mlýny
The water surface is sought after for swimming and for water sports. The reservoir Nové Mlýny consists of three dam reservoirs of which the upper one is mainly used for recreational purposes. This facility is situated in the community of Pasohlávky.
The dam is suitable for summer fun and pastime activities. It is ideal for the lovers of swimming, sun bathing, windsurfing, fishing, and other water-related activities. The surroundings of the dam also offers a number of hiking and bicycle trails.

5. Protected landscape area Pálava
In 1986, this reservation was included in the list of UNESCO biospherical reservations. Pálava is created by river flood plain of the Dyje and by the Pavlovské Hills. Besides architectural memorials, Pálava is known for a karst cave and other natural beauties.

6. Brno – 50 km from Mikulov
The Moravian metropolis is situated least than an hour’s drive from Mikulov. The establishment of Brno dates back to the 11th century A.D. yet archeological findings confirmed that homo erectus lived near the contemporary Brno as early as 40 000 years B.C.

7. Vienna – 80 km from Mikulov
In the 1st century A.D., the Romans established a settlement called Vindobona, today’s Vienna. In the course of centuries, Vienna gained more and more importance. It witnessed the greatest boom at the time of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire when many valuable memorials were created. The Austrian capital is also included on the UNESCO world cultural heritage list.
